I finished Latoya, a cabled tank (click on the link for the free pattern from the Berroco website). Compare mine with theirs. I made several modifications to fit me and my yarn. I am mostly happy with it, though I may need to shorten the straps.

I posted the full errata and modifications instructions here. The post is of epic size with a pictorial tutorial for grafting stitches in rib.

My daughter asked for one. I will substitute 2x2 rib instead of 3x3 rib to scale it down for her.

Summer Cable Project

This is not Fall, but it is a cable project. I was browsing the Berroco free patterns library when I stumbled upon Latoya, a knitted asymmetrical tank. The pattern needs some serious copy editing, but the pattern is instantly downloadable for free.

IMHO, it is a beautiful design. I just wish that the website credited the designers. I am just about ready to start the cabled section. My progress pictures and notes are here.

A Small "Large Cable" Project Complete - Burly Spun Helmet

I know the contests are complete but I thought the group might enjoy seeing this small project with a very large cable. I've recently returned to knitting after a long break and have been working on small projects which allow me to try a variety of yarns and knitting techniques.

Pattern: Helmet with Earflaps by Lipp Holmfeld (Vogue Knitting on the Go Chunky Scarves & Hats)
Yarn: 1 skein (8 oz.) Brown Sheep Yarn Co. Burly Spun Wild Oak
Needles: Denise Size 15 and K crochet hook
Comments: Short row shaping left small holes toward the crown which are pretty noticeable in this large diameter yarn (anybody know what I could have done to avoid this?). Very warm and cozy hat nonetheless.I'm happy with the results but probably will not be working with super bulky yarn in the future. This hat is destined for the The Dulaan Project.

I joined the Green Hat Along so I could make a St. Patty's day hat and I came up with my own pattern for this loosely based on the Besotted Scarf on Hello Yarn. It's pretty cool, but I have to figure out what exactly I did to shape the crown, I didn't keep good notes towards the end. After I figure it out I will post about it again. In the meantime...

Yeah I torture my cats by making them pose in knitting pictures with me.

I wasn't sure if there was a firm ending date, but I've just finished my last small cable project and I'm just so darn glad they're done, I wanted to share them.

"Snicket" baby cable socks, started in December and just off the needles this afternoon. You can click the picture for details, if you'd like.

Although I fell off the knitting wagon with my large project (it'll be done someday, I hope) I was very inspired by the group and managed to get five small items knitted (two fingerless gloves, one hat, one scarf and socks).

Sorry, I didn't have time to blog yesterday or, to be exact, the last week, so I'm trying to catch up. Here is what I finished last week:

It's the complete set with the cabled hat, the matching cabled mittens and the not so matching, except for the color, not cabled so called scarf. Since the yarn is already varigated I had a hard time making the cables show and that's why I didn't go with this pattern for the scarf. Trust me, I tried, you can see the before and after on my blog, but I think my decision to change the pattern was the better way to go. I used Red Heart acrylic yarn in worsted weight and size 5.5 mm needles on the hat and mittens and size 8 mm on the scarf. It was well received!

Bobble Blue is Done

It has taken me a year, but I have finished knitting Bobble Blue from Interweave Knits Spring 2006.

I knit it from Knit Picks Andean Silk in Bluebell. I can't wait to wear it, but now it is all humid and a bit hot here in Texas. :(

Cabled Blanket

Finally Finished

It took forever but the cabled blanket is finally finished.

It is roughly 70 X 50 inches. Due to computer problems, these are not going to be the greatest photos.

The recipient, my husband, has not yet gotten home so he doesn't realize it is complete. He did, however, see it last night waiting to have the ends woven.

Due to the size of the blanket, I had to remove all pillows from the bed to even attempt a photograph. The blanket is just slightly smaller than a queen-sized mattress. Since the yarn is a cotton blend, and the blanket is large, the weight of it may cause the blanket to "grow" a little over time.

It will probably be a very long time before I knit a cabled blanket of this size in worsted weight yarn.

I finally finished a cabled project! I can't believe it took me this long, and I only have one thing to show, considering how many things I had planned for this knitalong.

I made Zephyr's Wicked pullover. It's a great pattern and literally flew off the needles once I got started. I'm sorry you can't see the cabling too well in this shot...I gave it away before I remembered the lack of cable close-ups, but they are there.

Specs:

Yarn: Araucania Nature Wool Color #9
Started: Wednesday, Feb. 14
Finished: Wednesday, Feb. 21
Mods: I added two more decrease/increase rounds and a few inches to the overall length. I love being able to do that!

Yep, y'all know what these are: Fetching from knitty.com. Frankly I think fingerless mitts are dumb, but wanted to use up stash yarn and give cabling without a cable needle a try. Pretty easy technique to get used to - think I might cable some more.

Thanks guys for hosting the KAL - it pressured me to try cable projects more than I would have.

Asymmetrical Cardigan

I finished the Asymmetrical Cardigan from Knitting Nature, just in time! I really adore Ms. Gaughan's patterns, this is my third project from the book. I made a boatload of changes (mostly based on my different gauge from the pattern) - I'll have them all up on my blog (along with a proper photoshoot) within the next few days.

I started and restarted so many cable projects in the last few months, but only a couple of them made it past the potential stage.

Here's my one and only actual FO: a pair of Stulpen inspired by the ones Angelika posted here last fall. Hers were a variation on this pattern (scroll down for English instructions), she added the partial fingers. I made mine as armwarmers.
Actually this pair is promised to my MIL and I am in the process of choosing yarn for a pair of my own. But they knit up very quickly. And I'm going to make a matching headband to keep my ears warm when I go walking (it's still cold here for at least a month).

Speaking of cabled goodness, I am still undecided about the right yarn for the sexy curvy cabled cardigan. The assymetrical cables are gorgeous in almost everything, but the reverse st st background just doesn't appeal to me in many yarns. It might work in some of my dk or light-worsted cotton blends. Maybe I can find my turquoise SWTC bamboo? I have lots of that. I'm pretty sure I don't have enough of the purple.

I'm also restarting my Stitch Diva dropped-stitch cabled cardi-wrap (the project formerly known as the Fall Cable Fiasco). I have a big bag of Berocco's Boho in the lovely Burgundy colourway that should work beautifully. The ribbon will give it the required drape and the subtle colour and texture variations will provide interest and depth without detracting from the cables.

Boogie Vest from Knitty. I used Lamb's Pride Bulky in Deep Charcoal. I couldn't cable without a needle due to the bulkiness. I learned how to fix a miscrossed cable by dropping down to it and reknitting it...however, I had to frog back as there was a mistake further down that HAD to be fixed. Luckily it was only at the armshaping area where the neckline splits.

As you can see below, the true color! I love it and can't wait to wear it.

I had hoped to have another Fetching and a sweater to enter but these Fetchings are my third and final entry before the deadline. They are two colored and match DS's Pirate hat. He is a phoographer and very much into the Nightmare before Christmas...I personally find these fetchings a bit creepy.
I wnat to take this opportunity to say there have been an amazing amount of gorgeous knitted items posted here. I have enjoyed reading the blog and hope there will be another Cable KAL.

Coronet Hat

I finished my hat earlier this week. It has gotten a lot of use in the winter weather we have had.

Universal Yarns Inc. Deluxe Worsted Tweed 100% Wool
Size 8 needles, my gauge-5spi

I really like this hat. The cabled band makes it look so dressy. Grafting the cable was a little tricky. I need to review how to do the purl stitches I don't think I did all of those right but it looks okay.

I think my band may have been a little smaller than the pattern designer's. I knit the hat to the length she suggested and it seems just a little bit tall. But that leaves me plenty to pull down over my ears when it is cold.

I will definitely use this pattern again. I often make hats for charities. I think this will be a good one for that too. There is just something special about it.

Peek a boo! I see you!

The first picture is blurry, but more color accurate; the second is not blurry, but completely washed out.

This is Peek a boo from Inspired Cable Knits by Fiona Ellis, knit up in KnitPicks Shine Sport in Sky. I made the XL size. It took longer than I would have liked - I had hoped to finish it by Christmas; fortunately the recipient's birthday is next week, so I was able to switch things around and give her something else for Christmas.

The cotton yarn is pretty unforgiving and there are noticeable areas of rowing out in all the pieces; I'm hopeful that a few washes will even things out, though. I'd likely make this one again (this one is a gift for my sister), but not in a cotton based yarn - it's way too harsh on my hands to try to make that many cables in a yarn that has virtually no stretch!

Two More Little Projects

At last, my Irish Hiking Scarf has it's mate! I started this toque right after finishing the scarf, but somehow it became buried under a pile of WIP's. I found it yesterday, while cleaning up and finished it this morning. Nice to have it done :).

The second picture is a newer project. More fingerless mitts to coordinate with a scarf. The cable design on the mitts is supposed to match the lace on the scarf, and it's pretty close.

Irish Hiking Scarf

Finished the very popular Irish Hiking Scarf this afternoon. I have been wanting to knit this scarf for a long time and actually purchased yarn for it three years ago. I think it was the very first KAL I ever joined!

This was knit on size 7 Brittany needles using WoolEase yarn. Next time round I'm going to use nicer yarn.

Cabled hat to show off

I wanted to show you the cabled hat I've finished a couple of days back. For all you naturalists out there, please close yours eyes and skip this post, because nothing about this hat is form a sheep or a tree. The yarn is 100 % acrylic red heart worsted weight and the needles are the old fashioned aluminum is used. Thanks to the pooling of the yarn the cables I put into the hat you are actually able to see the cable pattern I knitted. I'm also working on a matching pair of mittens and a cabled scarf to complete the set, but because of either doing rows instead of rounds or because of the smaller number of stitches in the round I don't get the same effect and the cable pattern is very hard to make out, but I promise, it's there.

Here is the hat just to let you know what I'm talking about. I'll hook you up with another picture, when the trio is finished.

I've just started a Central Park Hoodie with Classic Elite Skye Tweed in the Scottish Mist colorway but probably will not be finished by the end of February.

Cats-Paw Cabled Knee Socks

Here is the first knee sock for my 4-year-old daughter. I hope to finish the second one today. They feature an eyelet front panel in the shape of kitty pawprints, with cables around the sides and back. I will be so happy to finish these! They took me quite a while.

Celtic Knotwork Hat

I just finished my Celtic Knotwork hat. I used Paton's Classic wool. The knotwork band was a joy to watch form. It is very warm and I love it!

The band is knit sideways, then joined to the first row. The crown stitches are then picked up along one edge and worked in the round. Then I added the earflaps.

Gingerbread Baby Sweater DONE!

Last night, in a flurry of knitting, I finished the Gingerbread Baby Sweater. I originally got the idea for this sweater from Jan Brett's wonderfully illustrated book, The Gingerbread Baby. I emailed her through her website, and I got a nice email back giving me permission to title my sweater after her book. She even asked for a copy of the pattern!

If you have little children, I'd highly recommend this book. It's a wonderful story and the illustrations are simply beautiful. I just love the accurate details of Jan Brett's drawings . . . . but enough of that.

So, without further ado . . . . (trumpets and drum roll, please) . . . .

I introduce to you, The Gingerbread Baby Sweater! It is an original design, and I hope to have the pattern up on my sidebar soon. I am so pleased how well this turned out! (That's saying a lot, since I usually have something to complain about with all of my knitting.) My only regret is that I cannot seem to get a good picture.

You might notice that the sweater looks a bit snug on my daughter. The sweater size is 6-12 mos. I actually knitted the sweater for my newest nephew, Jacob, who is still an infant, but I had to get someone to model the thing, so my tiny Breanna had to do. She's 14 mos. old, but this 6 mo. sweater almost fits her!

The pattern was a bit tricky for me to figure out, because the one of the cabled braids is on the side of the sweater and travels up the underarm. Since I've never knitted a sweater in the round before, this was a new learning experience. I'm still not entirely sure I did it "according to the book", but I think it turned out alright in the end.

Basically, this sweater is knit on circular needles to the arms, and has set-in sleeves.

Now I can't wait to knit another one that will actually fit my little Breanna!

Hi everyone. You all have put me to shame with all the lovely Cable projects this fall and winter. I have combed through the archives and documented 150 small projects ranging from fingerless mittens, socks, scarves, neckwarmers, headbands, hats, and bags, and 24 large sweater projects. All of the participants who have completed a cable project from October 1st to today are entered. Remember that I am still accepting cable FO's through February 28th before using the random number generator to choose our winners. There will be one large project winner who will receive a knitting book still to be determined. Since there have been so many people who have finished small projects, there will be three winners in the small project category. All winners will receive a skein of sock yarn.

Ropes and Ladders finished

I really enjoyed knitting this pattern. It was well written and easy to follow. It is simple enough I will be using it to teach a friend how to knit cables.

The scarf is knitted from 2 balls of Lambs Pride Super wash Bulky. This should make it easy for my son's friend to care for. I think it will be a scarf he is proud to wear.

Grin the only thing I got tired of was being told that cable pattern would make a nice sweater grin.

A New Beginning

Here are the first three (of 20 or 24, I haven't decided yet) blocks of my Aran Afghan as shown on Knitty Gritty. I'm making it in Lion Brand Wool-Ease Blue Heather on the recommended US 7 needles. My picture isn't too clear but, trust me, I have one Trinity Stitch block, one Horseshoe Cable block and one Rope Cable block.

I just finished Shedir today, and I must say this is the nicest cable knit I have done so far. The pattern is lovely and kept my interest the entire time. Charts are well written, and I really like working with Rowan Calmer. I used the Calm colorway, 1 ball. Size 3 Knitpicks circular and dp needles. More on my blog.

Gingerbread Baby Sweater

I am currently working on a sweater for my newest nephew, Jacob. My own son, Peter, loves Jan Brett's beautifully illustrated book The Gingerbread Baby. I've always admired the sweater that her character "Matti" wears, and I thought a similarly knitted sweater, along with a copy of the book, would make a nice baby gift.

Here's (finally) a picture of me wearing my Rohan Cardigan. It's my first cable design, and I'm fairly pleased with the results, although I'd change things if I did it again. Too bad she can't erase some of those fat rolls, too!

Finished Gathering Intentions!

I finally finished this hopefully in time to get some winter wear out of it! It took 15 balls of Dale Garn free style aran wool on size 4 mm denises to get gauge. It is not perfect but I am quite pleased with it.

I enjoyed making it although don't think that I need to make another cable sweater for a while! It was a great pattern for a first time cable knitter like me as it really helped me get a feel for the cables. I did do some of it without a cable needle but got painful wrists so had to go back to using the cable needle.

Samus Cardigan Done!

I finished my Samus cardigan! Still needs a zipper, though I like it as it is for now. It's a little bit big for me, but I think I will still wear it. This sweater was a great learning experience for me. It was my first real cable project, and it turns out I really enjoy the cable work. The stockinette took patience for me, but I'm really happy with the result.

I am in the process of getting into the process of a couple of Baltimore Elegance blocks. I have cut all of the back round squares and have been working on one with dimentional flowers. I have reason to think my hand applique skills need lots of work which I am willing to do but in the meantime I do want to see some progress. Therefore I did this block today on my machine and I am very pleased with how it turned out.
In another quarter, I have resurrected my Dear Jane quilt blocks and found that in all of my false starts I have accumulated nearly ninety blocks!!! Which is more than enough to make a top especially if I use my siggie squares as spacer blocks-or some other spacer blocks. So that is what I have been up to these last 24 hours....

It's Finally Finished!

The Michael Kors Cardigan is finally finished.

Yarn: Filatura di Crosa, Zara Plus
Pattern: Vogue Knitting, Fall 2004
Needles: US 7 and 9 circs
Modifications: None.
Started: 2005
Finished: January 30, 2007

It is soft, squishy, and warm. I love this yarn. The sleeves are a little long, but not too long. I learned how to do button holes, the backstitch, and after experimenting with connecting the collar, I have kitchenering down. I didn't block it, I just washed it in Euclan and laid it carefully out to dry without pinning. Be warned, this yarn stretches when wet.

CIC Sweater

From time to time, my friend Kathy
and I have a "Knit Together" (KT). Our current KT is a child's sweater for CIC. We decided to use different colors for the separate sections in hopes of making a little child's life more cheerful. As of now, I plan to use red, turquoise, yellow, orange, green, and blue. I will try to show my progress as I knit but this is it as of now.

Coronet Hat

What interesting weather we've been having! I think most of the country has been having bad weather, and it hasn't been any different here. I think there's about six inches of snow on the ground right now, and there is supposed to be a few more inches tonight.

So, continuing my theme of knitting for myself (Rohan Cardi is for me me me!), I finally got around to knitting myself a hat. The cold weather gave me the impetus to get it done quickly, too! The pattern is Coronet Hat from Knitty, and it's one of my favorites. I've made at least four hats, now. I used that delicious yarn that I've been ranting about on my blog, Patons SWS. I still have one more skein left, so I think I'm going to try knitting mittens to match my hat. Stephanie Asche gave me a copy of her pattern (thanks, stephanie!)

I just learned to knit just in time for Christmas. I'm addicted already and have an embarassing stash. My first cable project was a scarf for the Red Scarf Project. I made it using the Irish Hiking Scarf Pattern which is lovely and very easy to make. It's so addictive, I've already made a lot of progress on another one in a green wool for a friend. This is it before I finished weaving in the ends (cats stole my needles - they are master hunters I mean it!)

My next cable project will be a purse for myself. I can't wait!

Congratulations to all of you who actually finished knitting a cable project. I've been a big procrastinator. So much so, that I stopped visiting this site because it just reminded me of what I was not getting done... Originally, I planned to knit Mariah. That's been put on hold indefinitely. This knitted dress is my last chance at finishing a cable project. I'm really, really close. Just have to seam it up.

Here's another picture so you can see how this dress will look when finished.

I do love this dress, even if it ends up not fitting me, it was such fun to make.

Rohan Cardigan

Well, I'm slowly slogging away at my green cardigan. I've finished the back, fronts, one sleeve, and am 95% done on the last sleeve. Once that sleeve is done I get to do the fun part of sewing it all up and knitting the collar.

At first, I didn't care for the arrangement of cables I chose, but it's starting to really grow on me. I think I might name it my "Rohan Cardigan".

Now, I realize that's a bit gradiose for a simple cardigan, but as it's my first cable design, I figured it merited some sort of majestic name! (For those poor, uninitiated readers, "Rohan" is a place in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.)

If you've seen the Lord of the Rings movies directed by Peter Jackson, you might have noticed the Celtic/Saxon influences in his depiction of the Riders of Rohan. I thought my cables are vaguely reminiscent of the design motif of Rohan.

All this to say that I figured if I named my sweater after something I really like, perhaps that'll give me the urge to actually finish it, so I can wear it! (Perhaps I should rename my kitchen, "The Palace of Galadriel"; maybe then I'll have an easier time keeping it clean!)

Cable Addicted

My first large cable project has turned me into a bit of an addict. I finished Rogue earlier this month, and I loved it. It had just the right balance of interesting cables and non-thinking stockinette for me. I wrote more about my process in this post on my blog.

Currently, I am working on knitting Durrow. I am only a few rows into the body of it. My plan is to work on the body and the sleeves at the same time, so I can try to hit the right balance of cabling and plain ribbing to keep my interest strong.

Another Pair of Socks

Samus Progress

I'm patiently working through the seemingly endless stockinette stitch body of Samus. I've got the lower body and right front done. I get bored esily with stockinette so I am easily distracted. But I am really looking forward to wearing this sweater, so I'm remaining pretty dedicated to it. I am so ready to do a little more cable work though, so the sleeve cuffs will be a welcome change.

I made these mittens for my daughter. They are the Warm Hands Warm Heart mittens by Maggie's Rags. I use Debbie Bliss cashmerino dk in blue on size 4 needles. The heart cable was a little tricky, but they were a quick knit.

Natalya Gauntlet FO and Sweater WIP

Here are my Natalya gauntlets. I was going to keep them for myself, but they are a little heavy for the Bay Area (although not lately). They are off to my DSIL in New Jersey. BTW, they are knit in RYC Cashsoft Aran. Love that yarn!

I've also been working on the cover cabled hoodie in the Debbie Bliss book Cotton Denim Aran. I'm using All Seasons Cotton instead. I'm really enjoying the pattern so far. We'll see if I finish it by the deadline

I have started another cabled scarf while I am wait for some Knit Picks Swish Super-wash yarn to arrive so I can start on my best friend's IHS. I had been looking for a nice variegated yarn but couldn't really find anything I liked that was in my budget. Damn Karaoke SOYSILK for being so pretty but so expensive.

Anywho, so this current scarf I am knitting is for no one in particular. It is just part of my own personal version of the knitting from my own stash 2007. I decided that there is no way I can adhere to no buying any yarn through out the 9 months, and I don't buy sock yarn so it doesn't help me. But I have promised myself that I would continually have something on sticks that is from my stash of yarn. Even if I am working on a project I bought yarn especially. So for now this little guy is it.

The yarn was also brought back from Greece by my friend's Johnnie and Jon when I house sat for them. (My Iceland Madil IHS was brought back from Italy.) I have tried a couple things on it but since it is sort of cord like, nothing I have done so far looked good. But I think this little pattern I created (variation on the basic cable theme, if you're nasty) is alright. I wanted to test out to see if garter stitches rather than reverse stocknette would feel stronger, and it does. Then I did the right cable c6f and the left cable c6b to create a more interesting visual. I have never blocked anything before but I fear I will have to for this scarf cause of the bunching at the cast on, but other than that I like how it is turning out.I posted a little bit more on my blog but before I go, check out how cute my kitten Revan is, bogarting into my in progress picture.

Well I finally got finished with purses and totes and got to settle in with a small cable project. My yarn partially dictated my choice of pattern. The yarn is 2 skeins of Lambs Pride Bulky Superwash in a lovely dark blue grey called Riff Blue.

I was looking for something simple yet nice looking and cabled... So I checked out the links in the side bar and settled on the Ropes and Ladders scarf.

This is actually going rather quickly and I may even finish it before my son has to leave on the 13th.

Bobble Blue

I've been working on Bobble Blue from Interweave Spring 2006 issue since March. It hasn't been a constant thing. I have sat it aside many times for other projects. But this week I finished the last sleeve and blocked it!!

I am so excited. I plan to have it assembled before the end of the month. I will keep you posted of my progress.

By the way...this is a great KAL. So many people are knitting such beautiful cabled projects--KUDOS to our hosts.

Beginning First Cable Project...

I'm new to the blog, and new to this cabling thing. I did complete a pair of Fetching fingerless gloves, but was not thrilled with the result - probably because my yarn choice was poor. Now I'm working on the Samus cardigan, also from Knitty, and I'm loving it. I'm working on the Saxon braid that runs along the bottom, and it got off to a slow start, mostly because I'm new to cabling, but once I learned to cable without a cable needle, thanks to Wendy's excellent instructions, it started moving along at a nice clip. Still, I'm really enjoying working on it. Here's my progress as of the other night:

I'd love to see some completed Samus's if anyone else has worked on this pattern. I'm finding it to be quite an enjoyable knit. I'm using Knitpicks, Wool of the Andes, in Grass color, which is also turning out to be a surprisingly nice yarn to work with.

Irish Hiking Scarves (finally)!

Here are my two irish hiking scarves - both finally finished! The white one that I'm wearing was knit with Paton's 100% merino wool in colorway "aran." There are a few mistakes in it...including the super-tight cables in the beginning while I was purling backwards. Oops! I loved knitting it, though, and started up another one while I was only halfway through the first. The brown striped one is Wool-Ease, as I was thinking of giving it to a young relative for Christmas and I thought a washable yarn would be better. I did not find wool-ease as fun to knit with as the Paton's wool. The white scarf is about 65 inches long, but now I wish it were a bit longer. The brown one is only about 50 inches - I only had two skeins of yarn that I was trying to use up. So exciting to finally finish something wearable! Of course, it's chilly here today - but by Monday we'll be into the 70's again!

DD requested fingerless gloves, as her hands are always cold. She requested the design details and seems very pleased with the result.

The pattern is my own - worked in some yarn leftover from a "secret" prject and done with dpns.

I've completed a cable head band

After two months of tennis elbow, I've started knitting again. Its not perfect (the elbow) but I am in the mood to knit. I just completed a cable head band for my daughter. Its done in a country blue, shetland chunky and took less than a 50 gram ball to do.

Forgot to mention that the cable pattern is from the Family Circle Great Ideas Knitting and Crochet magazine, vol 13, no 5 (August 1987). It also has a matching easy knit bulky sweater to go with it. Took me three tries to get it right. Was watching Air Buddies as I did it. Now to make one for me!

Hello Fall Cable Knitters!

I am proud to say that I did complete the last of my Basic Cable Fingerless Gloves last night to match my Irish Hiking Scarf/Hat Combo. Now I just have to sit around and wait for it to freeze here in Austin so that I can wear the whole combo together. Although that would be quite a lot of blue. I think I will mostly end up wearing the gloves at work because I have really bad circulation and my hands, feet, and nose are always frozen solid. I figure I can wear the gloves to keep my hands warm but still allow me to type. I am actually doing that very thing right now for practice. I have made a number of typos so far (but I am correcting them as I go) but I am sure I will get used to it.

I just want to make more and more of these but before I am selfish and make me more I am going to knit something for my best friend to surprise her. Probably something cabled on account I am so cable crazy at the moment.

I forgot if I posted about my process here before but I did mention it in my blog it was a hell of a process. None of the patterns available on the IHS KAL worked for me because I wanted to knit mine using the double circular needle method and I just couldn't alter those patterns in such a way that worked well for me. So I created my own pattern to work with the 2 circs method. There was a lot of knitting, frogging, and altering going on but I did it, and I couldn't be happier. Here is a pic of the chart I created, I'll post the actual pattern on my blog this weekend at some point.

Cable panel from Vogue Stitchionary

I poured over all of the lovely and intricate cable patterns in the Vogue Stitchionary 2 and fell in love with 'snake charmer'. It's kind of hard to see in this picture but there is a cable down the center and then some snake-y weaving around the center cable. I'm making a TDR turtleneck out of Debbie Bliss Merino Chunky. It's very soft and really shows off the cables. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that I have enough yarn, since I'm winging this one!!

I am so in love with this pattern from Knitty Fall 06. It's great for kids and adults with a sense of fun. I've made three so far, one for me, one for a 6 yo, and one for a 2 yo. However, I gave mine to my LYS as a display model, so I'm about to start another one for myself, and a second one for another 2 yo using leftover from the first one. This pattern is incredibly fast yet looks very complicated. The longest part is making the leaves and sewing them together.

These were all made using Blue Sky Alpacas Dyed Cotton (the fiber is organic) in tomato, thistle, and shrimp. The leaves/stems were made using Cotoli

Mt. Tam Mitts

These are a slightly modified version of Mt. Tam Mitts by Maya Fox. They are named after Mount Tamapais in Marin County, where I live. They can be procured via her blog Foxy Crochet, or via Marin Fiber Arts. These were made with Lana Grossa Baby Alpaca on size 6 needles, using the double circular method. They are size small. They were really fun and easy to make with a cabled thumb gusset ensuring a good fit.

A Hat to Match my Irish HIking Scarf

I finished my first cabled hat this week. It is a little loose around my head but I actually kind of like it because I can wear my heat down with out messing it up, that's all a girl wants out of a beanie right? This was my first that on a circular needle. I have done several on DPNs but this cabling was a bit too hard on DPNs so I went out and bought my first interchangeable needle. Now that I have one I REALLY want to get a set but I don't think Santa's going to bring one to me this year. I didn't get the word out early enough I think.

Moving on, I was so excited about getting this blue hat done I casted on a second one the same night, this one is a bit smaller and the k2, p2 ribbing at the bottom actually matches up with the cables unlike my first one. I like that much better.

I finished this one yesterday morning. I had a different vision in my head with the white stripe and it didn't quite come out the way I pictured but it is still nice enough for second hat I guess.

A Finished Project!

It was hard to admit defeat but.... This yarn, lovely as it is, didn't work well with my original pattern choice, but it has been wonderful to knit the "Irish Hiking Scarf" pattern. I just finished it up yesterday and DD has decided it is hers. I received the substitute yarn for my original project choice - the IK aran sweater earlier this week (all the way from Australia!) but won't be starting it for a while.
